Lincoln County Real Estate
Lincoln County is located at the southern end of the Lincoln Hills and is a wonderful place to live, work and play. Some say that the county came by its name as a result of a misunderstanding between the area’s first permanent settler and the Missouri Territorial Legislature; others say it was named after Major General Benjamin Lincoln, who served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. One thing is for certain, however – the area is rich in history and has plenty of options for the outdoor enthusiast, most notably the Cuivre River State Park. Located between Troy (county seat of Lincoln County) and Moscow Mills, the park was added by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in 1964 and is one of the state’s largest, richest, most rugged parks. Lake Lincoln, part of the park, offers swimming, boating, fishing and the park’s two wildlife areas provide hiking, backpacking and wildlife observation activities.
Lincoln County is also a county on the rise – from 2000 to 2010, Lincoln County’s population has increased by 35%, making it the fastest growing county in Greater St. Louis and the second fastest in all of Missouri. Troy is situated just an hour northwest of downtown St. Louis, and with relatively light traffic, many of its residents commute to St. Louis. Lincoln County also is known for its low crime rate, fine educational system and for having a very affordable cost of living.
